STEM Career Pathways

REA facilitates career intervention activities which link schools, industry, TAFE, universities and parents in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment focused on encouraging students to engage with STEM at schools and to take up STEM career pathways after school.

To facilitate these outcomes key goals include:

  • Increasing exposure of students to employment pathways to industry
  • Deliver practical industry career experience initiatives for students
  • Deliver student mentoring and network opportunities

An historic $200 billion is being invested by the Australian Government into modernising Australia’s defence capability, securing our nation while strengthening our defence industry and creating Australian jobs.

The ‘defence industry’ is the thousands of Australian businesses, men and women across the country who aren’t in the Defence Force but use their expertise, experience and trade skills to supply and support it – they are the Workforce Behind The Defence Force.

There will be more opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to join over 3,000 business already working in the defence industry. Many of the opportunities will not be directly with Defence, but in the supply chains of the ‘prime’ companies that deliver many of the major Defence projects in Australia.

Researching Careers in Defence Industries

In support of promoting research into career pathways, all participants in REA’s programs are required to research information about Defence Industries and possible career pathways within those industries which match their skills and passions.

The Department of Defence supports a range of skilling and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiatives which seek to address industry capacity and capability gaps and boost the pool of STEM skills available to the Australian defence industry.

The Re-Engineering Australia Foundation is a recipient of a Department of Defence 2017-18 School Pathways Programme Grant and undertakes a range of activities to increase the pool of young people undertaking STEM subjects at school and raise students’ awareness of defence industry as a viable, exciting and long-term career option.
