Finals Information

School Finals

May – June

Teachers choose some or all of the Challenge Marking Criteria and set these as the school based assessment criteria for determining their best school teams.

Racing is the highlight and we encourage teachers to run their own school based race-off.

This is a great opportunity to showcase the project to other students and the rest of the school community. You may also choose to invite existing or potential industry partners to visit or even participate as a judge.

The timing of school finals is up to the individual school but we recommend schools take into consideration the date of their local regional finals.

Regional Finals

July – August

Regional Finals generally only run in New South Wales and Queensland due to large numbers of schools undertaking the F1 in Schools™  project in these states. However the need for Regional Finals is assessed on a year by year basis depending on the number of registered teams in any one state.

Any team competing in a Regional Final MUST first be registered with REA by the advertised final date. For information on team registrations, click here.

Whilst it’s ideal for students to attend regional finals, we recognise this is not always possible. Cadet Class teams can send their cars for racing and poster for assessment to the Regional Final coordinating school to be received no later than one week ahead of the event. Teams who take advantage of this arrangement must pay any cost associated with the return of the car and poster. Regional Final Coordinators will notify non-attending Cadet Class teams of their results.

Unfortunately, this arrangement cannot be extended to teams entering the Development and Professional Class of competition due to the need for face to face interviews between teams and judging panels.

The best Cadet, Development and overall Professional Class teams from each region progress to the State Finals. Wild Cards invitations may be issued by REA personnel on the recommendation of the Regional Hub Coordinator.

To find out details relating to your nearest regional final and make contact with the coordinating teacher click on the tabs below or email [email protected].

Management of Regional Finals

Regional Hub Coordinators have total responsibility for managing Regional Finals with assistance from teachers of participating schools.

Due to the abolition of fees for Regional Final teams, REA will no longer provide Corporate and Team ID stickers or Lanyards for teams competing at this level. Rather, teams are required to produce their own stickers for corporate and team sponsors.

Team ID sticker decals are no longer in use at State and Regional Finals.

Corporate Sponsor Sticker Decals as well as Lanyards will be provided at Event Check-in to teams moving through to the State Final level of competition. No stickers will be sent prior to the event. Check Competition Regulations for more information.

State Finals

REA hosts and manages all State/Territory Competitions. These are usually conducted at interesting venues and can include industry visits as part of the programmed activities.

At this level of the competition, the full range of marking criteria will be assessed. The top scoring Development Class Team, Professional Junior Class Team and Professional Senior Class Team are invited to represent their State/Territory at the National Final.

Champion Cadet Class teams from each state final will be invited to provide their projects for display at the National Final.

Teams progressing to this level of the competition will need to consider budget and logistics for travel, team uniforms and display assets. To participate, team attendance at this level is essential for all teams other than the Cadet Class. Teams may need to engage financial sponsors to help with the required budget.

Following is a list of state final dates and venues for 2017. REA advises that teams and teachers regularly check this website for possible changes to the timing and venue of state finals.
